Extended International Year One in Engineering (Academic)

Prepare for entry to Year 2 of an engineering-related undergraduate degree at Queen’s University Belfast. There are six specialist sub-pathways to choose from: Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
This 12-month programme includes an extra term, helping you build the academic skills and subject knowledge for study success. With a single visa for the full programme, you’ll save time and money – giving you a seamless pathway to Year 2 of your degree.
If you have a lower English language level, you may qualify for our 4-term International Year One in Engineering. This includes a term of Academic English to improve your English level fast – with progress of 0.5 to 1.0 IELTS point per term.

- The first term is academically focused, preparing you for the remainder of the International Year One.

- Prepare for your degree by using industry-standard, computer-aided design and simulation tools.
- Opportunity to undertake a placement year as part of your degree with organisations such as BP Chemicals, Pfizer, Arup, AECOM, Farrans Construction and Graham Construction.
- Complete your first year at our on-campus International Study Centre, with expert support from day one.

Age Requirement

All students commencing courses for the September start date must be 17 years old by 31 December of that calendar year. For all other start dates, students must be 17 years old on the published start date of the course.Academic Requirements
Students must normally have successfully completed 12 years of school education. .Students with only 11 years of education will normally be Referred to Centre, the exceptions being Vietnam, China, and Hong Kong. Students who have completed the International Baccalaureate with a minimum 22 points may be accepted. Students who have studied UK GCSE, IGCSE or O-level will need to be approved via the Refer to Centre route before they can be accepted, the exception being students who achieve a minimum of 5 subjects at BBCCCincluding Maths.
English Language Requirements
IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in all subskills) or equivalent.iCAS
If you have a higher English language level, you may qualify for our iCAS – integrated Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) – programme. Combining your pathway and degree in a single study plan, you’ll only need one visa for the duration of your studies and can apply with alternative English language qualifications to IELTS.
